Macfusion automount6/7/2023 However, due to the replacing of spaces and slahes, Disk Utility shows it as, e.g., "Some_Volume". But for the most part, it actually works. This is an okay solution.ģ) I removed my excessive debug code, which means I might have broken a thing or two by accidentally removing too much. I initially made some of these separate shell scripts, but that turned out to be wasteful in terms of code reuse. The symlinks allow me to use 'basename' to gather what DiskArb is really trying to do. On the other hand, it doesn't care about FSVerificationArguments (it'll always pass "-q" no matter what), yet it does about FSVerificationExecutable. /ntfs.format), but it does care about FSFormatArguments. To give a bizarre example, it doesn't care about FSFormatExecutable (it calls. Sometimes it respects some of the ist, sometimes it doesn't. Signal path audio6/7/2023 These practical issues are discussed further in Section 5.2.3.įigure 5.20 gives an overview of the audio signal path in one scenario, but there are many details and variations that have not been discussed here. Possibly, the track of the singer’s voice could be mixed with a previously recorded instrumental track before it is sent to the audio interface and then to the headphones.įor this recording process to run smoothly - without delays or breaks in the audio – you must choose and configure your drivers and hard drives appropriately. From here the audio data go back to the audio interface to be converted back to analog format and sent to the singer’s headphones or a set of connected loudspeakers. The CPU applies the reverb and then sends the processed data to the software output buffer. For example, you might want reverb added to the singer’s voice. The CPU performs any digital signal processing (DSP) called for by the audio processing software. Here you can specify effects to be applied to tracks, start and stop the recording, and decide when and how to save the recording in permanent storage. These audio processing programs serve as the user interface for the recording process. In Figure 5.20, we’re assuming that you’re working on the audio in a program like Sonar or Logic. Let’s follow the audio signal now to its output. The input buffer provides a holding place for the data until the CPU is ready for it. Moving back and forth to the hard drive is time consuming. It also has to make a copy of the audio data on the hard disk because the digitizing and recording process generates too much data to fit in RAM. The CPU has to handle other processes at the same time (monitor displays, operating system tasks, etc.). Buffering of audio input is necessary because the CPU may not be able to process the audio stream as soon as it comes into the computer. (The audio interface has a small hardware buffer as well, but we don’t need to go to this level of detail.) The audio input buffer provides a place where the audio data can be held until the CPU is ready to process it. Saying that the audio buffer is in RAM implies that this is a software buffer. The driver interprets the audio stream and sends it to an audio input buffer in RAM. When an audio interface is connected to a computer, an appropriate driver must be installed in the computer so that the digital audio stream generated by the audio interface can be understood and located by the computer. The audio signal is received by the computer in a digital stream that is interpreted by a driver, a piece of software that allows two hardware devices to communicate. The audio interface performs analog-to-digital conversion and passes the digital signal to the computer. The audio interface could be an external device or an internal sound card from GSEAV. During the recording session, the microphone, an analog device, receives the audio signal and sends it to the audio interface in analog form. Now let’s get back to how a recording session works. Figure 5.20 Signal path in digital audio recording This way, multiple processes can appear to be running simultaneously. Under the direction of the operating system, the CPU can give little slots of times to various processes, swapping among these processes very quickly so that it looks like each one is advancing normally. The CPU works hand-in-hand with the operating system, which is the software program that manages which task is currently being worked on, like a conductor conducting an orchestra. The CPU ( central processing unit) is the main hardware workhorse of a computer, doing the actual computation that is required for tasks like accepting audio streams, running application programs, sending data to the hard drive, sending files to the printer, and so forth. As the audio stream makes its way along the signal path, it passes through a variety of hardware and software, including the microphone, audio interface, audio driver, CPU, input and output buffers (which could be hardware or software), and hard drive. Let’s look at this more closely now, with special attention to the signal path and conversions of the audio stream between analog and digital forms.įigure 5.20 illustrates a recording session where a singer is singing into a microphone and monitoring the recording session with headphones. In Section 5.1.1, we illustrated a typical setup for a computer-based digital audio recording and editing system.

Sparkbox maker series6/6/2023 This is something we’ve written about before and looked at how it can be helpful in maintaining design vision. We boiled down everything to the analogy of a sculptor’s hammer and chisel. I personally hone in on HTML and CSS and leave the JS and backend code to the full-stack experts.Īs we explored having designers write frontend code, we needed a name to describe their roles on projects. Each Frontend Designer has a different skillset therefore, some take their code work further than others. If the team is comfortable designing in the browser, then we move faster through static designs in order to start writing production code as soon as possible, to which the designer can contribute if they are comfortable writing code.Īt Sparkbox, our designers-we call them Frontend Designers-all write some level of code, which allows us to be more closely involved in projects during development. If the client is more visual, they might want to see more before approving screens or pages for development. The amount of pre-code design work that we do at Sparkbox depends on the team and the client. A designer can iterate and expand on the initial design vision while the project is being built. If a designer is involved from the beginning, static designs do not need to be as fleshed out and communication can happen faster. What We’ve FoundĪt Sparkbox we have been utilizing a designer from the start to end of most projects, and have found it to be valuable for many reasons. For example, what happens when the client wants to add another page? Or, how do you handle those pesky, awkward screen sizes? By having a designer on board from start to finish, we’ve been able to improve our workflow and answer questions like these. There must be a better way to ensure the final product looks and functions the way the designer intended. While that process might work fine for some projects, we can do better. The code ships without much input from the designer. The developer communicates with the designer when details about the design are unclear. The completed designs are handed off to a developer who interprets the designer’s work. The designer starts work on the interface design or maybe starts with a wireframe. It’s not uncommon to see a waterfall process like this: The problem we were trying to solve by bringing in a designer at the beginning was the disconnect that can happen in the typical flow of a web project. In this article, I’ll explain why we’ve made this shift and how it helps us better serve our clients. What if there was a designer at the project kickoff meeting? What if that designer was able to provide time-saving and value-adding ideas throughout the project? What if that designer wrote some frontend code to help polish the product and reduce the time spent pairing with a developer? At Sparkbox, we’ve pushed for the last several years to do just that, including at least one designer on most projects from start to finish, and we’ve found it to be very valuable.

Imac desktop for pro tools 12 mac6/6/2023 But ultimately, the faster your Mac, the easier and quicker it will be to produce music. The Mac system requirements for music production depend on what music software you’re using and the complexity of your projects. Read on to find out why we think these models are the best computers for creating music. Mac mini - the best budget Mac for music production.16-inch MacBook Pro - the best Mac laptop for music production.Mac Studio - the best choice for music production. In a nutshell, these are our three favorite Macs for music production in 2022: You can try MacKeeper now for free, with one free fix, so it’s well worth giving it a shot. Now just wait, as MacKeeper clears some RAM for you.Run MacKeeper, and select Memory Cleaner from the left.Thankfully, you can do that easily with MacKeeper’s Memory Cleaner feature. That can cause your Mac to slow down, until you free up some memory. Music production apps can eat up RAM like it’s candy. So let’s take a look at your options to see which Mac is best for your music-making needs. The important thing is to weigh everything up carefully before making a choice. And when you’re handling long, multi-track songs, the more RAM and processing speed you can get, the better. MacBooks offer portability, for example, but iMacs may be more powerful. There are many different models that will do the trick, each with their own pros and cons. Choosing a Mac for music production isn’t easy.

Alienskin exposure x6/6/2023 We put Exposure X’s noise reduction and exposure tools up against Lightroom to see how they handled tricky images-in this case either poorly exposed or noisy Canon RAW files. But it doesn’t (as of this writing) support Hasselblad or Phase One/Mamiya medium-format cameras. You can add additional editing programs and change the output format from TIFF to JPEG in the settings.Įxposure supports a wide range of RAW file formats encompassing most of the top-tier professional cameras. You can also select “edit in…” from the right-click menu and finish your work in a third-party editor of your choice-at which point Exposure outputs a TIFF file with any edits you’ve made in Exposure applied to them. Those sidecar files won’t be readable by any other program besides Exposure. Any editing tool set, such as exposure, bokeh, etc., can be collapsed and reordered, even moved to the left side of the screen, for a customized workspace.Įxposure delivers non-destructive edits to your images and generates a folder of sidecar files with editing instructions in the folder housing your originals. There are no modules to flip between so, again, you’ll work faster here than in Lightroom. EDITINGĮxposure X aligns all your editing tools in a single panel running down the right-hand side of the program. The program only provides dimensions in pixels, not inches or centimeters, and won’t dynamically constrain height/width proportions as you tweak one of those values. However, if you want to resize an image upon export, it’s a hassle. Images can be exported from the program with the ability to add a suffix to the file name. You can’t keyword images or compare them side-by-side, either. You can bookmark folders for quicker retrieval and sort images by flags, colors, camera make and edit time but not by shutter speed, ISO, aperture, etc. While finding images in your file tree is quick, Exposure X’s filtering and organizing tools are still relatively basic. The import options are straightforward, with functions to rename images, batch-apply metadata such as copyright and the option to delete images when they’re done transferring. There are steps you can take to keep Lightroom from bogging down, of course, but none of this extra work is required in Exposure X.īy default, Exposure X will automatically open a dialogue window when it detects a memory card. This catalogue-free approach also means that Exposure won’t slow down over time whereas Lightroom will as its catalogue grows. The upshot is that the program loads more quickly than Lightroom and gets you to your images much faster. ORGANIZINGĮxposure relies on your PC/Mac file and folder structure to organize images-there are no catalogues, collections or other layers of abstraction between you and the photos stored on your computer. Lest you think Alien Skin completely forgot Exposure’s raison d’etre, they also threw in three new presets: Petzval, Pinhole Camera and Freelensing.Īlien Skin is taking dead aim at Lightroom with an update to Exposure that emphasizes photo organizing and non-destructive RAW editing. While the bulk of the new tools are centered on image management, Alien Skin did make some significant improvements to its editor as well by adding a white balance eye dropper, new temperature and tint controls and a new detail panel with noise reduction and sharpening tools. There’s also much wider support for camera RAW formats. You can copy, move, rename and delete files and folders from your PC within Exposure. To that end, you can now import images into your PC from a memory card and add color tags, flags and star ratings to images and filter photos using those tags. WHAT’S NEWĮxposure X dramatically expands the program’s ability to organize and edit images. But the X does mark a significant evolution in the program as it morphs from a first-rate preset and film emulation application into a more ambitious image management and editing solution. This is actually the eighth, not the tenth, edition of the program. The latest contender is Alien Skin’s Exposure X. When it comes to image organizing and editing software, Adobe’s Lightroom is, if not the best (we won’t start that argument), then clearly the program that many others seek to dethrone. “To be the best, you have to beat the best” is a well known mantra among athletes and competitive types.

Simple css font string6/6/2023 Lastly, using the HSL values, you’d use this code: This is a purple paragraph. If you’re going to use the RGB value, you will write it like this: This is a purple paragraph. If you want to use a hex value, your code will look like this: This is a purple paragraph. You’ll use the HTML tag such as and then style it with the CSS color property like so: This is a purple paragraph. Inline CSS is added directly to your HTML file. There are three ways to use CSS to change the font color. CSS lets you use color names, RGB, hex, and HSL values to specify the color. To change the HTML font color with CSS, you’ll use the CSS color property paired with the appropriate selector. So if the tag is no longer supported, how do you change the HTML font color? The answer is with Cascading Style Sheets or CSS. Therefore, it makes sense that the tags are no longer supported in HTML5. Changing the font color is a design decision, and design is not the primary purpose of HTML. However, the tag is deprecated in HTML5 and is no longer used. Here’s an example of how this code looked with hex color code: This text is purple.Īnd this is how you could set the text color to purple using the color name. The color was specified either with its name or with its hex code. More specifically, you’d use the font tag with the color attribute to set the text color. Now that you know how to define color, let’s look at different ways to change the HTML font color.īefore HTML5 was introduced and set as the coding standard, you could change the font color using font tags. if we wanted to lower the opacity of the example purple, we’d use this code: hsl(276, 100%, 50%. In that case, you’d use the HSLA value where A stands for alpha and is defined in a number from 0 to 1. In this case, 0% represents black, and 100% represents white.įor example, the purple color we’ve been using throughout this article would look like this in HSL: hsl(276, 100%, 50%). Lastly, lightness uses percentages similarly to saturation. 0 represents black and white, and 100 represents the full color. Saturation uses percentages to define how saturated the color is. On a standard color wheel, red is around 0/360, green is at 120, and blue is at 240. HSL stands for hue, saturation, and lightness. HSL and HSLA ValuesĪnother way to define colors in HTML is to use HSL values. The first two letters specify the intensity of the red color, the middle two numbers specify the intensity of the green color, and the last two set the intensity of the blue color. They consist of numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. The hex color codes work similarly to RGB codes. HEX Value HEX codes are another easy-to-use color selection option. It ranges from 0 (not transparent) to 1 (fully transparent). The RGBA value adds one more value to the mix, and that’s the alpha value that represents the opacity. The value of each color input can range between 0 and 255, where 0 means the color is not present at all and 255 means that the particular color is at its maximum intensity. The first number specifies the red color input, the second specifies the green color input, and the third specifies blue. The RGB value looks like this: RGB(153,0,255). It defines the color by mixing red, green, and blue values, similarly to how you’d mix a color on an actual palette. Next up, we have the RGB and RGBA values. In other words, if you use a color that’s not on the list of supported colors, you won’t be able to use it in your design by its color name. However, the downside of this approach is that not all color names are supported. For example, you can use “blue” to set the color for an individual element to blue. Currently, there are 140 color names supported, and you can use any of those colors in your styles. The color name refers to the specific name for the HTML color. Color NameĬolor names are the easiest way to define a color in your CSS styles. There are several ways to define color in web design, including name, RGB values, hex codes, and HSL values.

Fantasian trailer6/6/2023 With cultish overtones and rife mythology, the trailer has some serious tension. With this announcement also came a Moloch trailer, where you can see Betriek’s involvement with a nearby group of archaeologists, who unearth the remains of a woman with a slit throat. The film also stars The Wheel of Time’s Alexandre Willaume. The deeper she digs, the more convinced she is that something horrifyingly ancient is hunting her.
